The Gold Coast Titans have announced that David Fifita has signed a new contract to remain at the club beyond the current season.

Fifita, 24, had been heavily linked with a move to the Sydney Roosters, but the Titans have managed to convince the Tongan international to stay on the Gold Coast.

"I'm really excited to be staying at the Titans," Fifita said. "I've loved my time here and I believe we've got a great squad that can achieve something special."

Titans CEO Steve Mitchell said he was delighted that Fifita had agreed to extend his contract.

"David is a world-class player and we're thrilled to have him at the club," Mitchell said. "He's a key part of our plans for the future and we're looking forward to seeing him continue to develop and achieve his potential."

Fifita is one of the most exciting young forwards in the NRL. He made his debut for the Titans in 2018 and has since gone on to represent Tonga and Australia.

The Titans will be hoping that Fifita can help them to break their premiership drought. The club has not won a title since 1998.
